Reflecting on the Third Phase of Life

The later chapters of life bring with them both change and possibility. For some, it’s retirement; for others, it may be a shift in health, identity, or perspective. These moments can feel daunting, but they also invite us to pause and reflect on what truly matters. In this blog, I share thoughts on how the third phase of life can become not just a time of loss, but also one of meaning, connection, and growth.

The Cake Model: A Metaphor for Therapy, Identity, and Being OK

Each of us is shaped by many layers — the identities we carry, the conditions we’ve lived through, and the contexts that hold us. Using the metaphor of a cake, I explore difference, belonging, and our place within wider systems. Drawing on Transactional Analysis and Eco-TA, this perspective offers a gentle reminder that, whatever our story, at our heart we are OK.
